Post Project: Dresssing up factory brakes....

So with the impending death of my factory Goodyear Eagle LS's, I decided it was time to upgrade the tires on the PT. Not that I thought the Goodyears were bad tires, in fact I got 50k out of 'em. But I wanted something more agressive, so high performance all season radials were on the list.

Along with the tires I have REALLY wanted to get some nice wheels for my car since it is a base 2003 PT with only the 15" steelies and hub caps. After shopping on Discount tire and the Tire rack websites I landed on my preferred package (within a reasonable budget for me) and placed the order with the Tire rack for:
  • Four Kuhmo Ecsta AST's (225/50/16)
  • Four SE A7 16" wheels

As I was waiting for the tires/wheels to arrive I got worried about how ugly my rusty brake drums and calipers would look when revealed behind the nifty wheels I was going to mount up. So I got the idea to dress up my factory brake calipers and drums.

So with wire brushes, rags, brake parts cleaner, caliper paint, and home made stencils in hand I set off to work. Since it turned out so well, I thought I'd share some photos with you, my Mopar brethren on how they turned out:

It's a subtle look, but it really adds to the quality of the new wheels. What do you guys think?

So is that a lower profile tire that will keep the speedo correct?

Yes, it's an exact plus sized match to the factory tires O.D., my speedo is still 2,100 RPM at 55 just like the stock tires were.

I've bought from the Tire Rack before, and they are a great resource for doing things the right way.
