I have had lowered cars and cant say the ride appealed very much but has anyone lowered the rear only on their PT to close the wheel gap?
are their any real downfalls to doing this?

Hey Everyone,
Yup! You should be ok to drop the back with no problem! Since the suspention travel equils the ride, I have actually squeezed a full 5" out back of mine, and still have about an inch of travel! Its when you start really getting ambitious with the front, playing with spring combo's, and cutting bump stops while trying to level it out that will get you! Kind of a love / hate thing....I love the way it looks, but hate the way it rides deal! ![]() Take it easy, and good luck if you decide to drop her down a bit! Candyman

Hey their TheOne,
That is a good question. I think I have seen kits to drop just the rear, but for the life of me, I cna't seem to find them. I would highly recommend giving Mitch a call over at Cruiser Motoersport! He is one of the best aftermarket guys I know, and is a straight up good guy! He should either know where you can find a kit for just the rear, or may be able to work a deal on some he has at his shop! Just click on the link below to be rerouted to his site ( be sure to tell him Candyman sent you)! Cruiser Motor Sports Unfortunately, I am more of a visual artist, more than into the mechanical side of things, but I will try to give you my best educated guess on the rear springs install based on watching my friend install mine, so if this doesn't come out quite right sounding, I am sure one of our more technically inclined guys here will correct me please! From what I saw, and gathered, the rear springs seem to be very simple to replace. They appear to be gravity loaded, meaning they sit in a pocket, and use the cars weight to hold it in place. With this said, on mine, when we were trying to adjust the rear height of my car, we would just put it on a lift, and hoist it up. Once we got the weight off of the springs, the appeared to be able to just be pulled out carefully by hand. From what I could see, the entire process seemed pretty darn easy to do, and you didn't need any fancy tools to pull it off! As I recall, we didn't even have to take off the wheels for this project! The front ones are a different story. For them, the hubs, and front end components have to be disassembled, and I believe the coil itself goes over the upper part of the strut assembly. Since you are just looking for the back, this do'snt matter much anyway, but I wanted to try to give yo the whole picture if I could! Really, for the best technical instructions on most anything PT Related, you could definitely check out PTDIY,xor again ask Mitch! Either one should be able help out no problem! Here is the link for PTDIY: PTDoItYourself.net Chrysler PT Cruiser, PTDIY.net, Do It Yourself maintenance, modification, repair, fix, FAQ, gallery, and tips I actually have some spring templates we used when makig my set, but by the time we got it to where you would want it, and turned out just a set of one off back ones, powder coated them up, and shipped them to you, you could have probably already bought a good complete set from somebody else! Although, if you guys ever want to kick a new set of springs at any time, we can turn them, and chrome them, or powdercoat them any way you want them! I sure do hope that might get you at least pointed in the right direction, and wish you the best of luck on your project! If you need anything else, maybe drop me a line, and I would be more than happy to try to give my advice, or two cents on anything, anytime! ![]() Take er easy! Candyman

that is the most extensive reponse have ever received on a car forum.
**a tear drops my eye** I will look into this and probably give him a call. I lowered my Trans Am that way. Isolated the body the then lowered the axle. The springs dropped right out. Good times!
