Default Grease Fittings or No Grease Fittings

Does anyone have the real story on grease fittings? I can find no real documentation on the subject. I even called my dealership today and they told me there are NO grease fittings on a 2006 PT Cruiser.

The only problem is I have at least 2. I know I have 2 since I added grease to them this weekend. Are there more?

Why do so many sources say there are none?

From Free Auto Mechanic.com:

Grease Fittings are almost a thing of the past. You will find that most all front wheel drive cars do not have any grease fittings anywhere on the vehicle .However, you will still find plenty of then on a rear wheel drive car or truck. They are usually located on the steering components and the drive shafts and U-Joints. Make sure these are greased at every oil change go cut down on pre-mature wear.

If your PT has the fittings, it's almost a "one-of-a-kind". Maybe the plant down in Mexico ran out of the originals and yours plus a few others were fitted with a different kind.

was your car bought new or used?
i'm thinking they might be aftermarket ball joints, thus the grease fittings.

All the original ball joints I've seen up here(canada) have plugs in both lower ball joints only.. Remove the plugs and install metric 45 deg nipples or you will be pulling the front wheels to lube them because of clearance problems. Thats the only 2 unless you use aftermarket replacement parts....DEBO
