Regarding the clicking noise, double check your CVC joints. Make sure the rubber sleeves around them are not torn. I had another front wheel drive vehicle that made similar sounds until the CVC joints failed.

+1 on the possibility of a bad CV joint.A bad tire will cause a similar condition.
Changing the wheel bearings can be a problem as the bearing presses into the steering knuckle. If you have access to a press the job is doable.Replace the hubs at the same time. Clark |

Ok finally an update: I replaced the cv axle, and the clicking went away. However the humming remains and has gotten a bit louder recently (maybe just my imagination). Could the humming/drone/huge truck tire sound be anything but hub bearings? How can I tell for sure?

Does the humming getting louder when you turn one way or the other? Replacing the bearings isn't all that difficult. Remove the steering knuckle and take it somewhere to press the old bearing out and the new one in (usually runs $20/knuckle). While you're in there, I would check the control arm bushings and replace as necessary. If you change the bushings, get the car aligned afterwards.
