Question Increasing tire profile

Hi to all. In Australia the 2007 Touring GT comes without a turbo, mine being a typical example with the 2.4l Autostick, Inferno Red. However, this model here has 17" wheels with 205 x 50 tyres (sorry we spell it that way in OZ)
With these rims is it possible to upgrade the tyres to 60 or 65 profile?
I realize it will alter the speedo reading but I would like less noisy and more comfortable tyres, so I thought upping the profile might do it.
Also on the same rims could I fit wider tyres, eg 215 or 225?

Also if it's possible is it safe?

Any advice welcome.
Cheers for now
Steve

My opinion is to avoid throwing off the speedos (sore-eyed pun not intended ), and find a set of smaller wheels to increase the sidewalls. Drop down to the base model size (15") if you want to.

Thanks my friend. I would be reluctant to go to 15" as that would reduce my gear ratios and have my car revving higher than it would need to - still, I'll keep it in mind.
Thanks again
Steve

This has nothing to do with the rim size nor the tire profile sizing...but with combination of both.

The total diameter/circumference is what you want to look at.

You can't keep the same rim size + increase profile + increase width all at the same time.

You definetly have to make a choice.

Thanks so much for advice. If I can do it I would prefer to increase profile on existing rims, not too worried about width.
Many thanks
Steve

What they are saying is get the smaller rim size (16" would be good) and that way you can increase the sidewall size for a more comfortable ride and still keep the same profile and keep the odometer true. Gotta lot of speed cameras in and around Sydney and probably other areas, too. My wife and I just got back from Richmond in May. My wife's uncle lives in Richmond and her aunt in Wentworthville. Love it there. G'day mate.

You could also get a tire with a softer side wall.I have the falken ze 912's same size as stock and the car rides so much better.

Thanks for that, I will look for them locally when my existing tyres need to be replaced.

G'day to all! Just got back from a 1200 km trip to the wineries - smooth as silk, (the PT, that is), and returned 9.0 l per 100 kms fuel consumption.
