Default Painting Rims

Ok so I need some advice from everyone here about a idea I have thought about. I have a white pt that sits on some 18inch motegi ff7 rims, the rims are black with a chrome lip, the idea is to paint the lip white to match the car. Also if you have any suggestions on how paint holds up and anything along those lines please let me know.
So if you could give me some feedback on what you think and if any of you are photoshop genius's maybe you could fix up a pic.
For some pictures look at my cardomain.

Thank you

Properly prep the surface. Yes, sand the area to be painted, put down a high temp primer, Black (BBQ Paint) works the best for a Primer It is a High Temperature. Then lay down a high temp paint of your choice, followed by high temp clear coat. The high temp stuff is needed as the brakes make the wheels hot. You don't want the paint to flake off and the wheels to look like
Sh*t after a month.

you don't need high temp paint or primer for wheels.

wheels don't get that hot.

"Normal" paint won't last on wheels anyway...

Baked powder coat is the only real thing that will.

"normal" paint is what manufacturers put on their wheels, and it can last the life of the wheel.

i've painted wheels in the past and have never had a problem. just like with any other paint job, success is 90% prep and 10% paint.

Hey their Jdubz13,

Its kind of hard to tell from the pic's but I am going to take a guess here and say that polished lip on your wheels runs all the way across the width of your wheel, right? If that is the case, then I am afraid to do it right, you may be in it for more money than just going out and buying new wheels already done.

The polished lip needs to be etched in order for any kind of paint to stick to it. To get the etched surface on a polished alloy surface, your going to have to either Media Blast it, or Sand Blast it, and since the lip runs right up against the black face, it is going to be almost impossible to not have to go ahead and blast the entire wheel and start from scratch, which is really not that big of deal.

Once the tires are dismounted from the wheels, you should be able to get them sandblasted, shoot a good undercoating, and re-powder coated all black for around $60.00 per wheel. Once you have an all black powder coated wheel, then you can prep the surface, mask off the face, and shoot either an extremely durable, and resilient Poly-urethane, or an acrylic enamel base paint, and finish up with an acrylic urethane clear for your white lip. Either paint should be shot in a spray booth, and then baked to get a nice hard finish, and should run you about $100.00 a piece in material and labor.

So when its all said and done, you should be looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $160 - $180 per wheel to get the look your going for out of your current wheels, which is a little costly, but the best way I can think of to achieve the final result.

Anyways, you go easy, and I will catch ya later.

Caswell has a powder coating gun kit on clearance @ 75$ if you're interested.

Plating Kits Electroplating Kits Aluminum Anodizing Kits Powder Coating Systems Metal Polishing And Buffing Supplies - Caswell Inc.

You'll have to buy the powder and stuff separatly but 75$ for the gun + power supply is a great price.
