Hi,
I'm just going to change my brake pads & discs/rotors, if you wasnt going to use a clamp to push the pistons in what would you do? |

If you don't have a "C" clamp handy, you can try just pushing the brake pad against the piston to open up enough space for the new thicker pads. First look at the brake fluid container and if it's right to the top you should empty some out so the piston can push out.

Ive got a g clamp but not big enough damn it now its too dark. how snug should the pads be on the disc?

With the caliper back in place with the new pads, the disk should be allowed to rotate without any drag. A very slight scraping noise might be heard. Couple hours of daylight left over here too. (Virginia).

A very big screwdriver/small crowbar?
With steady pressure on the piston, it should go in...

ive got a big enough g clamp now, just need to get my son to sleep so i can sort it. when bleeding brakes is it ' open bleed valve, press brake, close valve, lift brake, repeat?

I have found that when you depress the piston the fluid will just go back into the system. Unless you open the line to the atmosphere you shouldn't have to bleed them after.

Agreed. Just turn the C clamp slowly...

Wow i changed my rotors/discs & pads last night it was too dark to check the brake fluid level so i left it till this morning and everything works. i tried an emergency stop and the ABS kicked in just fine. I may still bleed the brakes but i dont think its necessary
