Default Control arm bushing

In trying to replace the control arm bushing the top nut appears to be spinning in the frame. How can I remove the bolt so that I can replace the bushing? Is there a way to hold the nut inside the car?

Too late timcathy you are in for the worst nightmare of your life now There is no way to hold the nut from inside the car because there is no nut on top of that bolt.

There is an oval piece of mild steel with 2 flat sides that is designed to spin when you try and undo it. I say it was designed to do this as no person in their right mind would have created this other wise without first undergoing a frontal lobotomy.

Around this squared of oval piece of mild steel is a kind of cage built from the inner skin of the sub frame which is supposed to stop this so called nut from turning when undoing the bolt. Unfortunately it is soft as shit and just expands and allows the excuse for a nut to spin.

The only option you have open to you now is cut a hole in the sub frame next to the bolt and get someone to weld the so called nut to the sub frame hopefully it will hold allowing the bolt to be removed. then replace bushes and put the bolt back in and then get a plate welded over the hole you have had to cut. I can provide some pictures if you like just so you get a feel for the nightmare you have unwittingly entered.

good luck

Well I would replace the bush with another bush if I were you you could try a tree if you like but it would not fit.

If you want to see what one looks like just google front control arm bush. or go to your dealer and they will show you one. Its just a round tube of metal filled with rubber and another tube inside the rubber about 2 inches across and 4 inches long.

here is a link to a pic
