Default Pothole got my rim

I guess the heavy rain and wind here in NY caused lots of holes in the road. I was on my way to a wake so I had a suit on (Weddings and Funerals) driving on the GCP when this huge pothole reached out and grabbed me and sucked all the air out of my tire through the dented rim. Here I am, in the rain changing out a flat. A couple of questions come to mind. I have a 2005 GT with 17" stock rims. Anybody know the part # and where I might get one in a hurry? They are 5 spoke chrome 17x??

Hi; which rim are you looking for. I lalso ost a rim in a pothole (on the Wantagh Parkway). I was able to pick up a set of 4 rims, but really don't need them all. They are the Empire 17 inch non-chrome rims, the kind on an '05 GT convertible. They are not perfect (a bit of curb rash) but all appear straight.

There is usually some on eBay but right now all the ones they are showing are painted silver, not the chrome your looking for. Try calling around to any of the recycling yards to see if anyone has a chrome GT wheel. Also look at some of the other PT forums in the For Sale sections. We had a couple people selling them but it was for a whole set, not just one.

Lastly, if it's only bent a little, there's places in the yellow pages that fix bent rims. I had a place in Maryland (when I lived there) fix my Z24 wheel for $100 and it was pretty badly bent (snow storm, ice, but that's another story).

Thanks, Delrosen and Crewzin. I am looking for the chrome OEM wheel. I saw the set on EBay but I hope I will never need another so I don't need 4. Boy is the ole lady pissed at me.

I don't think the Empire wheels are what your looking for unless you want to change all 4. They are good looking rims but only came on certain PT's, like the vert.

Here's one GT rim on eBay for $179 (plus free shipping) but it looks a little odd. I have the GT rims and they are smooth and the picture on eBay looks like it has a flat surface on each spoke, but maybe it's just the picture.

The roads here on Long Island are terrible; potholes everyone, some of them actual craters. Driving around today had to avoid downed trees as well!

Tell me about it. My neighbors tree went down. Luckily it didn't fall on anything. I guess I have to ride around on the donut for awhile. Oh well.

Thanks again Crewzin, you're right about it not looking quite right. I took a picture of mine to compare and it's a little different. I found one on Hubcap Haven: Basket Contents for $219.95 including shipping. Expensive day.

Hey bro I agree on the rode they are trashed from all the snow, and than the idiots just come around throwing tar in the hole and pat it down with a shovel so either you hit a hole or get gravel and tar thrown up all over your car.

I was over at Pet Boys today in Hicksville and they had some nice rims on clearance, if you can't find an good original you might want to check it out. Check on Amazon also because I can't believe that their isn't a lot of guys looking to sell stock rims.

While I have never used one myself (have never had a need) I would second Crewzin's suggestion of finding a place to repair it. Many places that do auto reconditioning have rim repair on their list of services.

Chances are it's going to be a lot less than replacing the rim. Plus, then the rims are still a match in terms of wear etc. You won't have three "used" rims and one sticking out because it looks brand new.
