Default Stock 205/55/R16 on these 16x6.5?

Hey all, sorry for yet another wheel/tire question, but I feel I just can't quite find the right answer for myself to feel comfortable making a wheel purchase without confirmation of fit (I am not really a car guy at all).

Anyway, my stock chrome wheels (16x6) have rotted away and I need new wheels for summer. My tires are still good, they are stock 205/55/R16.

The wheels I was looking at are 16x6.5 with 38mm offset and 5.24" backspacing. Tire Rack lists these after searching for 2001 PT Ltd wheels, so is it safe assuming these wheels will fit with no problems? Is it also ok to run the 205's on a 16x7 with no ill effects? What would be a safe range for offset and backspacing to look for with 16x7's? Are there any brands at Tire Rack I should be wary of and avoid?

Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Wait, are they 6.5s or 7s? Well, either way, yes you will be able to use the same tires.

The offset range from what I've read are between 35-42. You should be safe to run a 42 offset using a 16x7. I'm running a 40 offset on 18x8s and it's dangerously close to rubbing.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply 808.

I ended up ordering the 16x6.5 wheels, they are the Rial Milano with gunmetal finish. My bumpers are the unpainted gray (vehicle is Patriot Blue), and I like the way the gunmetal plays off them (although I originally wanted another chrome set, I also wanted to keep my cost down). My bumpers do have the fading from paint masking tape from the factory, so I might end up popping them off and give them a painting with gunmetal gray so they really do match.

(2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited)

There were a few other sets of wheels I was considering that were in the 16x7 size, hence the question about the different sizes.

I ended up finding some information regarding acceptable wheel sizes for different tire sizes, and the 205's should be ok on anything from a 5.5" to a 7.5" rim (I can't seem to find that particular chart again at the moment however). This was my biggest concern since I was not purchasing new tires as well. I put my trust in Tire Racks wheel selector that the wheels will fit the vehicle (however I will still have my installer test fits the wheels before mounting the tires on them just in case, as per Tire Racks return policies).

Fine choice! I like the look. Now, you just need to lower her on down!

I would have went with different, wider tires. 205's on a 6 1/2" rim are going to really look like pie cutters. The stock tires are also garbage and can be dangerous.
