Question GT Rims

I have a 2006 GT Cruiser. I would like to remove the 17" rims, and replace them with 16" or 15" rims, can this be done without the wheels hanging on the front calipers? I am going for a more retro look, so if you know where I can get retro rims, it would be appreciated thanks

I appreciate the info about rim and tire sizes, but maybe I am stupid, I still don't know if a smaller rim will hit the front brake caliper. I called a Chrysler mechanic, he said just take a rim, put it on the car, if it hits the caliper, it doesn't fit. I was hoping to hear a more scientific answer from the members of this forum. my tire size is 205-50-17

Assuming it's a GT, and not just a regular PT with GT wheels, I know 15s don't fit..not sure about 16s.

Btw, that Chrysler mechanic could have answered you without sounding cocky.

thanks for responding...Yep, its a true GT, 230hp really gets it going. If I find the right rims, I will be selling my 17" chrome rims.

The 15" stock steel wheels fit.
The 16" alloy wheels that come on a "turbo lite" will fit - because I have the exact same brakes as a GT.
Call and speak to tire Rack - you don't have to buy there, but I was impressed by what they knew.

thanks, now that I have the info, I have to talk to Chrysler about aftermarket rims, as not to void my extended service contract

My n/a '02 limited PT came with 16" wheels and I changed them to GT 17" wheels and had no problems. So I would assume if you do the opposite, there should not be any problem. But you know what happens when you "assume."

Not true. The GT has "fatter" brake calipers (to grab thicker disks) and needs more clearance on the back of the rim.

You sir, are correct. A non turbo can go to a GT 17" rim, but a turbo cannot go to a 16" PT rim.
