Default wheel size

I just bought a 2005 pt covertible, it is not a turbo or Gt. it still has the ugly stock wheels. I don't like the huge wheel and low profile tires, I want to go with a simple chrome modular wheel and wide white letter tire, I guess thats "old school" but I'm old. my question is, what is the widest wheel I can use without causing steering or suspension problems? thanks to anyone who can help.

It will depend on the offset of the wheel, but from what I've seen, the widest that we can fit on our cars is an 8.5" rim with a 35mm offset. I could be wrong, and it might be a bit more than that, but I can tell you that that's the widest I've seen.
