Default Rear wheel wont come off.

So I thought I'd put new shocks on my wifes 2001 cruiser today. Drivers side rear wheel won't come off. Anyone have tricks on getting a stubborn wheel off? I've tired kicking it, no good. I've attached a 2x4 to it and beat on it, carefully, with hammers up to my sledge. This thing still won't budge. Any tired and true tricks, or something else to try?

Soak it with WD-40, let sit overnite.

Here's plenty to read on the same subject.

How do I remove the brake drums?

Yeah, I soaked it, gave up and put the tire back on. Will give it a go Sunday. I didn't dig too far into the break drum post. I couldn't get to the drum if I wanted to, stupid tire won't come off. I did try and hope that the cruisers weight would do it so I slowly dropped the lift until it was on the ground. Still nothing. Heres hoping the wd40 bath does it. I love the smell of that stuff.

Red face Re: Rear wheel wont come off.

Worst case scenerio, after the WD40 trick; loosen you lugs and drive the neighborhood, looking for the biggest bumps!
I drove all the way to work one day (16 miles) with wheel vibrations getting worst.
(Sure enough, in rotating the tires the day before, I had failed to torque tighten one wheel)

(Boy! That wheel must not have been rotated in a few years!)

I did have the thought of keeping the lugs loose and driving, looking for a bump. Don't like the thought much but I'm sure it will be affective. I'm going to give them another dose of WD40 tonight and try it Tuesday. If still nothing then it looks like I'll be taking it for a spin.

if you use a floor jack ( and I really dont like this way) but you can rais it all the way up and with the studs almost off do the quick down almost a drop it may take a few times and you may even have to put your jack on like a 4x6 to get it higher but this will work

OR if you haev it high enoug but a board on a angle under the tire so as it comes down it will have to move OUT

Haven't had the time to work on it. I've been soaking it the last few days with the WD40. Hope to give it a go tomorrow. I had this problem with the front tires but not as bad a couple years ago. What is going on to cause this and is it preventable?

The wheel is one kind of metal the hub is another. When two separate metals are mated together for a long period of time they tend to meld/mate together. Humidity/road salt etc. would help the process.

Something to read:
