Default ? on converting from 17' to 15' wheels

Hi All,

I am some new to this. I've a 2004 PT Cruiser GT and wish to go from original (I've 120.000 miles) chrome wheels that are pealing and not holding seal of 17" to 15". At Tire Co. was told new 195/65/15 MB Seven would be the tires to get. So is this a 15" x 7.0 (not sure what MB Seven means).

My son is able to get some wheel rims that are 15's and from an early (1990-1993 Pontiac Grand AM) that are 6" wide. Would these work with the above tires and for clearance for brakes or too close. I want to be safe but if can go used and save money would be nice. I am disabled and like all these days ... every penny counts. But I was told if had to use spacers - unsafe ... but fellow at tire center told me that. Is the GT a major factor here? Thank you for help in advance. I'm over 55 and a woman who loves her PT but is still learning about keeping it in good conditions, etc.

Hey their gem2005us,

First off, welcome to the Forum!

Unfortunately, the 90 - 93 Pontiac Grand Am Wheels look to have a Lug Pattern of 5X120.7 which is the wrong size to fit the PT which are 5x100. This would require a Custom adapter and fit and work right.

Then like Crewzin had mentioned in your previous Post, the brakes fitting the inside diameter of the wheels would be your next hurdle, as Chrysler made for a pretty tight squeeze. Anyways, that's my two cents for what its worth.

I did find a list of compatible wheels:
BUICK SKYLARK 1989-ON 5x100

CHEVY CAVALIER, CORSICA / BERETTA 1989-ON 5x100

CHRYSLER SEBRING, CIRRUS 1996, PT Cruiser-ON 5x100

DODGE STRATUS, SHADOW, DAYTONA, GLH, SPIRIT, CARAVAN, NEON 1994-ON 5x100

OLDS SKYHAWK, ACHIEVA 1989-ON 5x100

PLYMOUTH NEON, SUNDANCE, BREEZE, ACCLAIM, VOYAGER 1994-ON 5x100

PONTIAC SUNFIRE, SUNBIRD, GRAND AM 1989-ON 5x100

SUBARU LEGACY, IMPREZA, OUTBACK WAGON, FORESTER 1990-ON 5x100

TOYOTA CELICA-ALL, CAMRY, NEW CELICA GT & GTS 1986-ON 5x100

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 3, JETTA 3, PASSAT GLX, CORRADO, JETTA 4, GOLF 4, BEETLE 1992-ON 5x100
Scion tC 05-08

A few things to watch for -- as Candyman noted, the bolt pattern - also, the PT wheels are hub-centric - the center hole (not just the studs) hold the wheels so you MAY need hub rings. Offset - clearing the brake calipers - MAY require spacers - if the spacers are not large (thick) you should be okay with them.

I have read that the Stock, Steel wheels off the base PT clear the GT calipers, and are 15", so that's a sure bet.
