Default Suggestions for new rotors and pads...

Hi I just wanted to get some opinions on what kind of rotors and pads i should buy since i need to replace the rear brakes on my 01 limited. Looking for something that will do the job well but won't brake the bank. Thanks for all your help!

Your post had the heading of needing calipers and I wondered why you would need them but you changed the body of your post to pads and rotors so my new question is, are you sure you need new rotors? The rear brakes don't do a lot of the stopping so you might need new pads but have the rotors measured to see if they are good enough to leave alone and if they are, you've cut your expense down to only pads.

whoops i just noticed that i put calipers in the title, sorry about that but its fixed now.

The rotors have been on the car for quite a while and look worse for wear so i figured why not get fresh rotors along with fresh pads, its the least i could do for the old girl.

There are some really good looking rotors/pads on e-bay, in fact they are from here in Ontario. You can get 4 cross drilled & powder coated (4 colors) zinc plated rotors,+ 8 pads for $123 + shipping! I think for another $28 you can upgrade to ceramic pads. Seems not bad to me..

There's a member over on PTCrew.com who sells rotors, nice cross-drilled and slotted, keeps the heat down, keeps the pads clean on foul weather days.

Two places to look - NAPA and TireRack.
Both have a range of prices for pads and rotors - the more you pay for rotors, the better the steel.
Ceramic is the only way to go for pads. Tire Rack rates them for use - I don't think you need racing brakes....
If you are an AAA member, show the card at NAPA and get 7% off.

My plain-vanilla 2008 has disks, which as you noted, is not supposed to be an option. I don't have any of the other stuff, including access to the instrument cluster computer, so I don't know why mine had rear discs.

Also, at 30000 miles the rear brakes (rotors and pads) needed to be replaced. Just came out of the shop today, and the left front caliper was hanging up, so new pads, one caliper and rotor replaced on the front at 39000 miles.

Is this normal? Would better rotor and calipers make a difference?
