Default Can't use tire chains - what to do?

According to the owners manual, I would have to replace my P205/55R16 tires with smaller ones in order to use chains. That's crazy! What is everyone else doing to solve this problem? Are there chain alternatives with lower clearance that can be used? I only need them at most one week out of every year, so I am not buying new tires.

Buy studded snow tires or snow tires in general.
I have a set of 205/55 r16 Nokian hakkapalitas snows for sale. $100 for the set. Were on my 01 LE for 2 seasons over stock rims

I could have sworn I said I'm not buying new tires... I'm in Oregon, not North Dakota. This is the worst I've seen in the 10 years I've been here and even then only 3 days of chain driving. There has to be another solution. I can't believe everyone who bought the stock PT LE also bought snow tires.

Oops, my bad. Missed the last line.
No, probably not.
If you are not getting snows, you are stuck with yours.
Can't imagine you can't find chains for your tire size, I'd check around.
Some tires you can put studs in, but i wouldn't try that with the Eagle's. Some states it is illegal to drive with studded tires.
Don't go out on the bad days.
Even snows don't help that much on ice. I sucked it up and bought snows for my wife and my car. It's worth it, even in a good year, those few months you leave them on help.
Do you get a lot or some snow in your area of Oregon?

Can't find a link, but there are a different type of "chain" out - basically it's steel-strand, with cylindrical metal "beads" - go on much like chains, only fit much tighter (closer) to tire. Haven't used them myself.

Not sure if these are the type that quicksiverdon is talking about but these offer a low profile;
