Red face Slightly disappointed - could use reassurance -

I recently decided to go retro with my 2005 Touring, and after much searching on the internet found that the only company producing smoothie wheels with baby moons is WheelVintique. they are offered by several vendors, and I found one that is about a hundred bucks cheaper than the others when I figure in shipping costs - go figure!

Anyhow, I ordered them - the wheels will be shipped next week and the baby moons came - 2 of them yesterday and two more on the truck today.

They are WheelVintique brand caps - branded on the box from Fresno, CA.

But - when I opened the box and inspected the caps, I found a vey small sticker inside that says "made in China". This should not have surprised me - it seems as if not much is manufactured in the US of A these days.

I am a little disappointed - but the quality seems to be there - at least in the caps. Can anyone tell me if the wheels themselves are also made in China?

Has anyone had problems with the WheelVintiques wheels? I know it's too late to ask, but should I decide to return them, I need to do so before tires are mounted on them and within the 90 day return policy. I'm hoping to hear that they are great wheels - feel kind of stupid for not asking about their origin before I ordered them.

Thanks

Harry the hillbilly

Default What do you think?

Got the second pair today - thought they would be the same as the first - not so. The second pair is "Made in Taiwan - republic of China" and is a two piece construction - it's difficult to describe, but I've taken some pictures -

Inside Taiwan Moon - note two piece construction - inner lip looks galvanized -

Inside China Moon - all one piece - feels lighter than Taiwan Moon -

Outside Taiwan Moon - deeper arch?

Outside of China Moon - China Moon looks flatter?

Yup, they would - but I don't think the Wheel Vintiques wheels are reversed - not like the old days when I had my '50 chevy with the reversed wheels and baby moons. I'd like that but don't think it is feasible with front wheel drive.

I would be calling whom ever you got the stuff from and asking for at least a matched set...

They will look great on the Cruiser

Pardon me for asking; when you turn them all over, chrome side up, put them side by side, do they all look the same even though two are 2-piece and 2 are 1-piece?

They do look virtually identical from the front side.

The main difference is in the lip on the back side - I'll take a couple of closeup pictures this afternoon - hope they will both snap on to the wheels OK.

Then you have to start to worry if they don't all fit on. If they all look the same from the outside, who cares what they look like on the inside.

Personally, a little something I do to ALL my center caps and anything that can come off. Put your ID (first name and telephone number) on the inside either black marker or taped message, so if anything does fly off, you might have a chance of someone finding it and giving you a call. Better than being one of the owners coming on to the forum looking for a center cap for XX wheel.

True - as long as they fit, no problem here.
A label on the inside is a great idea, CREWZIN - thanks!
Here are a couple of side-by-side pictures. I've got my fingers crossed that both types will fit OK - they are the same diameter. I would have posted these earlier, but I was in the studio recording this Saturday's bluegrass show on KSMU. If you are a bluegrass music fan, check us out - we're on every Saturday night from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Central Time - streaming live at KSMU -
