Default 70+ MPH & bumpy???

Hey there all, The rental I have is a 'Bone Stock' 04 auto, at 70mph+ on the freeways (most of them) the whole car shakes, I accelerate to 80 or so, and it gets worse, and MUST slow down. Only 2200 miles on this low budget car, but somethings wrong, kinda dangerous, even at 60 sometimes. The tires look fine and are @32-35psi. Feels very generic. But enjoyed scootin around town. Speed above 80=death? It was my week long rental. Can't wait for my GT. Stew

Sounds like a case of a bad/bent rim or wheels are way out of balance. Hopefully your week is about up for that rental. Don't forget to tell the rental company about your experience with it. I rented a van when my grandkids came to visit. Was doing some long high speed trips to the airport so thought I'd check it out...found the tires were all about 10 pounds under recommendation. Glad I didn't get on the highway before I checked.

Definitely have to agree with the problem being in the wheel(s). Once had a set of TSW Blades on my old import and I was NEVER able to hi-speed balance it above 85 or so. Finally took it to a guy who knew his stuff and showed me that the wheel itself wasn't bent - it was out-of-round. It was a factory defect.

Since it's a rental, I'd bring it to their attention for replacement of the wheel(s) in question.

G'Luck! [^]

Thanks fella's, I returned it today, kinda sad, but had my fun. I informed them of the violent shake, and they offered another one (PT), I saw them write up something to have it checked. But with all of the issues I'm having with my PT experiences, I still can't wait (but will) to drive the GT, DAILY.......Stew

Definately sounds like wheel problems, I've gotten my Touring Edition 5 speed up to 100+, and I was able to make pretty quick lane changes. No suspension mods, nothing. I bet that rental company will put it back out on the road without looking at anything on the car.
