Put a set of 17" x 7" rims with 235/45 tires on to see what they looked like and to check the fit and was amazed at how close the tire was to the strut plate that the spring sets on. There was only about 1/4" between the tire and the plate. Is this normal and can it hit with any extreme movement in the front end. A few of my friends are running this tire combo but I am not sure they ever looked to see how close this is to the strut. The wheels are for a PT Cruiser so I assume the offset is right. Will this be a problem or will the tire stay this distance from the plate at all times. I am not sure of the mechanics of the strut suspension and what really moves and when.

pt4u2nv, I'm running 225/45's on a 17x7.5 inch rim and I have less than 1/4" space between the tire and the strut plate. I haven't had any problems. The 235/45's on the 17x7.5 inch rims would have been too much. You should be OK with the 235/45's on the 17x7 inch rims as long as you have some clearance.
