Default Can anyone name these smoothies?

I am looking for a set of smoothies / baby moon wheels. I'd like to find them in 18" size. I came across this photo on the autotrucktoys.com web site, and it is the exact look I want. Unfortunately autotrucktoys can't tell me what size to order to match the photo. They have it posted under a Wheel Vintiques smoothie part number. Their other photo of that part number does not match the style I want. I sent the photo to Wheel Vintiques and they say it is not their wheel.

Can anyone tell me who makes this wheel and where i can buy a set? Thanks!

Paul

Paul. Welcome to the forum. Why not sign into the "Welcome New PT Cruiser members" and introduce yourself?

Looks to me like two separate pieces. A large trim ring around the outside and a large moon hubcap. That still doesn't help you pin-point the maker of each.

These moons sort of look like the center of your picture.

...and here's some trim rings.

Try Summit Racing - they have lots of Wheel Vintiques wheels and my experience with their customer service has been very good - Search Results for wheel vintiques - SummitRacing.com - the Wheel Vintiques part number should help.

Thanks Crewzin! That gives me a new direction to search. Looking at the picture in Photoshop, it looks like an 18" steel wheel with a moon hubcap about 11 1/2" to 12" in diameter. I see one at hubcapmikes.com that is 11 7/8". Maybe that will work. I still need to find an 18" chrome steel wheel.

Thanks harrym! Actually, Wheel Vintiques already told me that the wheel in my photo is not one of theirs. I'm still looking for other brands. I agree that Summit Racing is a great supplier. I have been very happy with them (unlike JEGS).

You could also try www.mooneyesusa.com or Stockton Wheel or theWheelsmith.net Home for Custom Wheels and Accessories or www.cokertire.com/rodcustom

The set of caps that I just finished was from Moon and they were origionally a set of their full moon, snap on type. Can you tell I like "retro" and monochrome a bunch. Before I painted them they were a similar look to what you're after.

You have a couple of ways to go on this, Chrome rims with baby moons or full hubcaps. Crager has chrome rims, cruisermotorsports.com has rims. I am not sure who sells just the hubcaps. Your bolt pattern is 5 X 100 and the offset is I think 40-42 ? Mine are 15's because I wanted a big whitewalls.

Thanks! I origionally tried them in the "out-of-the-box" bare spun aluminum finish and it made the wheels stand out to much for my taste. As I said, I like monochromatic looks on my cars. I started experimenting with this style, back in the 60's when I had the speed/ custom body shop and if anything, I like it more today. When you stand back around 10-15-20 feet from my PT you "see" just the colors. With the colors split along the beltline lengthwise and the darker color (the black) on top and the lighter color (the green) on the bottom your eye/brain connection is tricked into seeing the car as being longer and lower than it really is. This is accentuated by monochromeing the wheels to the same color as the bottom half of the car. If I had used chromed or for that matter any other color on the wheels, the effect would be completely changed. You would see a car AND four wheels, not just "the car" as I have now. By the way, if you put the lighter colors on top of any car, it makes the car look shorter and taller. Plus with the PT in particular, you have turned the PT into a "three-tone" instead of a "two-tone' because the blacked out side windows make up a LARGE part of what you see from that 15-20 feet back, so blacked-out window color, lighter top color and darker bottom color = three colors.

I love the look of your "panel". If I ever get a second PT that will be the first mod I would do. Well done!

Jerry
