Default lower torque strut

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this site. What a great site for PT lovers.

I'm thinking about replacing the lower control arms on the PT. It looked like a relatively straight forward job until I got to the part in my Haynes manual about removing the lower torque strut on the passenger side. Especially the part about adjusting the torque strut. From what I gather, the top torque strut and bottom strut bolts have to be removed ,then replaced. Then make sure the distance between the engine mount bracket hole and the shock tower bracket point is 4.7". If I don't disturb the upper torque strut will it affect the alignment of the engine mount in relation to the shock tower bracket? This looks like it could be a nightmare considering the designation in tenths of an inch and no tolerance.
Thanks for any insight you can give on this.

Whew! I'm tired already.

Wayne

Default Re: lower torque strut

I never measured or adjusted the torque struts and haven't had any problems. But it really isn't that hard to measure and adjust.

I don't think you will have any issues if you just pull the lower on off to do the suspension work.
