Default Running 17" Wheels and tires?

For a 2002 PT Dream Cruiser with stock front factory struts, what are the tallest 17" tires I can run without them rubbing or hitting anything? Most of you are familiar with my V-6 engine and drivetrain conversion listed under: PT Cruiser V-6 Conversion. As you can see from the 1st picture below, my front engine crossmember is a bit low to the ground. I would like to get more clearance by using the tallest 17" tires that would give me the most height possible in the front. I'm using the 17" wheels shown below in the 2nd picture. They are the made by Giovanna. They are called: DBL-G wheels, 17x7JJ. The current tires are Nankang 215/45 R17. Or if there is some other combination that would work out better, I would like your thoughts on that as well. Thanks for your support, Tommy.

Here is a view of the side of my PTwhich was taken in 2004. I don't like too much chrome. However, I prefer deep dish chrome finish wheels. Thank you for your support. Aloha, Tommy.

My thought would be to look into coilovers - looking for ones that actually could raise the ride height.

Yes, I have been doing alot of work and research and are modifying the front struts with coil overs as seen below. I have also modified the engine and rack & pinion cross member by shortening it by 2". Picture-2 is before the mod, and Picture-3 is after the mod. You can clearly see the height difference. Hopefully these mod's will allow for a taller tire, and give me additional height in the front. We shall see what happens. Thanks for your suggestion. Aloha, Tommy.

Here is my completed modified PT Crusier passenger front strut with coil over springs, also the tire to strut clearance after the modified strut was installed. Looks like I now have room to install a taller tire if need be. Aloha, Tommy.

Here's a view from the bottom looking up at the over all clearance of the modified passenger side strut. Much more space now. And the new control arm installed with the lower mount lip trimmed (where the red arrow is pointing to) to allow the control arm to rotate further down with out hitting the mount lip.

With the new front strut and engine cross member mods, I now have 6-1/4" ground clearance versus the 3-5/8" I had previously. Just what I needed. Aloha, Tommy.

Hi Tommy,
I ran 19X8 rims up front with 245x35x19 tires, but my fenders are flaired out about 1 inch. You could run 19X7 rims with 205x35x19's I think. This is why the air struts work well, becauuse you can choose your ride height. I like the bigger rims myself. I'm sure whatever you choose will look great. Take Care, Mike
