Default quick tie rod question.

I just bought a 2001 PT Cruiser from used car dealer. It was actually one of the salesman's take home car and maintained by the lot's mechanic. It runs fine. Just to be sure that everything was OK I also took it to my local pep boys and had them inspect it. They said that the motor mount and one of the outer tie rods need to be replaced, but it was more of a safety inspection issue. The inspection isn't due for 5 months and I'm not experiencing any steering or alignment problems whatsoever. How do I know if these repairs need immediate attention?

Look at both items.
Engine torque arm is very unlikely to cause a safety issue.
See posts on 3M windshield Urethane

Take out jack and lift corner they say is bad. Wiggle tire and see if it's loose.
Tie rods can and do fall off- a little play isn't immediate issue, but it doesn't get smaller ...

both of those things aren't too bad to change yourself if you have any mechanical ability...

I live in the city and don't have a garage or driveway. Performing the repairs myself is basically a no go. My question is since the car currently drives fine, can wait a couple months on these repairs? And...how could tell if it would become a safety issue?

I would say you have some time before you have to replace the parts. But I would get it fixed as soon as you are able to. With one tie rod being bad there is a very good chance that the other side is not so great too. I would have them all replaced at the same time. The longer you let it go the more uneven the tire wear will be as the 'loose' tie rod isn't keeping the alignment 100% correct all the time.
