Default Random rhythmic grinding...front end.

I just noticed yesterday that my front drivers side wheel was making a constant rhythmic grinding sound about every rotation of the wheel. I immediately pulled over to see if there was something rubbing or hitting each other. I couldn't see anything so I restarted the car and proceeded to drive home very slowly. So today I went to a mechanic and the grinding sound was gone. The car would not make it. But on the way home, it started to do it again but now when I brake to a stop there's a really loud grinding sound.

Anyone have any clue what this could be? Bearings? Suspension? CV joint? Brake pads? Any help would be appreciated so I can go back to the mechanic and tell him exactly what to do versus having them fuss around for a while and charge me extra labor. Thanks

wheel bearing would be my guess. Do you notice it more when turning to the left or right? Like entering or exiting a highway ramp?

Did the mechanic take the wheel off and inspect the brakes? If he did and everything is OK, then the noise and grinding sound is most likely the front wheel bearing.

My money is on the brakes. Especially if they failed to look at them. Other wise like CREWZIN said wheel bearing. New mechanic if that is how it went.
