Default Installing my FK coilovers (lotta pics)

On wednesday 15th of august I've mounted my coilover set. I'm going do do a bit of explanation here, accompanied by a decent amount of pics.

First I jacked-up the front of the car:

Then loosen these 3 nuts:

And these nuts too:

Take out the part and use the right tool for the job:

You got to use the topmount for the coilovers:

So you have to remove it:

I decided to take the bearing appart en re-lube it:

In terpentine:

The cleaned parts:

The grease:

And the bearing looks like new:

Mount it on the coilover:
EDIT: I 've made a mistake here by leaving the blue washer on it. The coilover made strange noises like the spring wound itself up and loosened again, but that was the washer putting tension to the wrong area. By disassambly the washer was completely broken to bits.

rcktpwrd likes this.

Mounting the coilover doing the opposite handling:

I don 't have many pics of the rear because it was +30 celsius and I was getting tired.

To put in the adjuster piece, you 'll have to get this off:

The aluminium piece, in the center of the pic, goes on there:

Mount the piece back and put the spring in place:

Mounting the shortened shock absorber:

And get this result:

Before:

After:

Front:

Dropped from 66,2 cm (this was with 1" springs allready mounted)

To 62 cm:

Back:

Dropped from 70,7 cm on stock springs:

To 66,3 cm:

So fronts - 6,5 cm and back - 4,4 cm give 'n' take.

I see you have the rear adjustment on the top...Is the first time I ever see that ... Are you sure it doesn't go at the bottom, just like the DieselPunk did? IMO you installed them the wrong way

Well, at first I was also sure that it had to go to the bottom cause, like I have it now, I can 't reach the adjuster with the wrenches.

But then I saw that:

1. The writing on the spring suggested the opposite.
2. The adjuster can only be fastened at the top, there is no possibility to fasten it to the bottom.

So I 'm 100% shure I did it right

So DieselPunk did it wrong

BUT, what do the instructions say ? and why it can't be adjusted at the bottom?

OK I see what the question is about the rear setup. That is very strange? It's kind of a shorter shock with a spring adjuster setup. Are all the rear coil over kits like that?

I understand how it works, just never seen that before. And thanks yet another great write up!

I understand that dieselpunk had it done by a shop and I assume the people there thought it was too much work to take off the baseplates to bolt on the adjuster.

I don 't understand how in earth they fastened it, if it were possble I would 've done it that way. So I'm afraid they didn 't fasten it and it just sits there pressed down by the weight of the car. That way it comes loose when you drive fast over a slope...

And there were no instructions with the coilovers.

im just curious.. don't the shocks prevent that from happening?

is there free play in the springs when the suspension is fully extended?

i'm only asking because i don't know..
