Default White wall inserts?

Someday I hope to upgrade my tires to real white walls, and smoothies, but not in the budget right now, or in the near future.

I see I can get a set of white wall inserts on ebay for less than $100 bucks, and a set of four full moons for another $85.

Anyone have an experience with or photos of these white wall inserts or full moons they can share?

Hi Deco,

I have been running Whitewall inserts for a couple of years now and have VW Baby moons with VW jetta steel wheels (they look better than PT steels).

As long as you trim the inside lip of the whitewall before fitting and get some Red's Rubber grease to lubricate the space between the insert and the tyre, they work great with radials!

Thanks ptcru1s3r... Just the info I was looking for! And great photos! This is also the look I'm leaning towards and it's good to see I can get classy results without spending more than $1,000 on my tires;-)

You might find these are less than the ebay products:
Mooneyes Online Store - Specialty Equipment Manufacturer, Speed and Custom Parts for Motorcycles and Automobiles

Ptcru1s3r -I had looked at using these at one point, but everything I had read about them said not to be used on radial tires. An issue with the flex of the sidewall causing the inserts to come off (or break apart). What size are you using? Have you had any issues with them breaking? Thanks for any insight.

I am on my second to third set of whitewall flaps in about 30 months. With the first set, I didn't trim the inside edge or use Red Rubber Grease and they did not sit flush and flapped about loads. This resulted in one tearing off on the motorway with a loud bang, which at 90mph was a bit scary (till I found out what it was). Also I found that "spirited" driving would force them out of the bead and make them crease and tear!

With the sets since then I have learnt to trim them down and put the red rubber grease on, which keeps them lubricated and stops them coming out of the bead on fast corners. If you don't lubricate them, they rub against the tyres and squeak. As long as you dont kerb them, and clean them regular they last for ages, I still have two left from my first set as spares!

PTcru1s3r - thanks for the info...and of course, more questions!

Can you show exactly how much you are trimming the inside edge? (pics would be great)
When it 'tore off' at 90mph, did it do any damage to your car or others behind you? And I'm assuming when it broke, you lost the air in your tire?

Take a good look:

The prices are for 1 moon. Ebay is way cheaper
But these are aluminium while the Ebay ones are steel.

Teska - I should have been clearer... Mooneyes has much better prices on the white wall inserts than anything I've seen on ebay. Haven't priced the hubcaps yet, but Mooneyes still looks competitive!
