Default Tire questions

Morning. I'm in need of tires on the Cruiser. Stock replacement: 195/65 15's. I've found a couple of quotes online for 4 new tires mounted, balanced, stems, etc. (everything I think) for about $335 out the door.

I haven't bought tires in a LONG time, and never for the PT - is that price pretty good? Is there a less expensive way?

The quotes are from Tires Plus and Discount tire. Anyone know anything good or bad about either one?

Both quotes are for Falken Ziex tires - one for Ziex ZE-512's and one for Ziex 912's.... anyone have any experience with either?

Sorry I know lots of questions...

Had a good expearience with discount tire. Had mounted myself. Check and compare tire ware ratings with the tires in your price range. Also call other tire places and see what they offer and price, for a good price comparison.

I just bought a set of the Bravarius 2's from Discount Tire. It is the only place I buy tires at anymore. A lot of times you can get them cheaper in the store.

I was actually looking at a cheaper set but they really recommended these so they sold them to me for the same price as the cheaper set. They are made by Bravarius which is owned by Continental.

So far they have been great tires. But what ever tire you get I would highly recommend Discount Tire.

I've heard others say good things about Discount.

Thanks that helps!

Thanks for the tirerack.com suggestion - their prices seem similar but then there is $55 in shipping... then what - do I need to find a place to mount and balance?

I was looking more at Discount tire - found some Kumho Solus KR 21's for only $5 per tire more than the Falkens... the Falken's are guaranteed for $45K miles, the Kumho 85K...

Anyone have experience with Kumho Solus KR 21's?

Also, is buying the Discount "Certificates for Repair, Refund or Replacement" worth it? I'm on a tight budget and the extra $40 (about $10 a tire) is a lot. I've GOT to get a front end alignment too. I've recently replaced Lower control arms and Outer Tie Rod ends...

Isn't the tire under warranty for the 85K miles - seems like the Discount "Certificate" is redundant, no?

That does seem a lot of miles, maybe their website is wrong. I doubt my car will last another 85K miles (i'm just about to hit 100K)... I hope so, but....

But must be a better tire if they warrant it that long, no?

I worked in a truck tire shop-I repaired literally hundreds of all types of tires;
Kuhmo=Junk
Anyone can build a rockhard tire that doesn't wear!!!

I'd order some michelin's, I was so very impressed after that experience that even if I have an old beater that's what it gets-
Design of every part is just so thorough, not going to be upside down in a ditch even if I have to go w/o beer for a bit.
And I's so cheap I don't even balance them ...
