Default Ball joint replacement

Hi,
Just found my PT has a split gaiter on the ball joint. This is now an MOT fail here in the UK so need to change the joint. Anyone ever done one? I've got a new joint (no time to get a complete wishbone here) but just wondered if anyone had any tips on removing the old one without a press. Any help and advice greatly accepted! Already replaced all bushings with Energy ones so kinda know my way round the front suspension etc.

What a job!!! Finally finished but ended up just replacing the gaiter as the ball joint looks good. Now have spare ball joint if I need it but will need to use a press to get old one out! I hate working on the driveway in the rain. Gonna have to butter up my father in law as he owns a huge workshop including pit!

Be glad your in the UK haha

I have to work on my PT in 4ft of snow some days :-p

Ball joints are easy to remove.

Take off the control arm. Turn it upside down, take a chisel, stick it under the joint, then take a 5lb hammer and smack it 4-5 times. it will fall off.

Must be pressed back on however :-D
