Default single thunk noise on right turn

we have a 2008 cruiser recently purchased used (have had about four months), one prior owner. recently we started hearing a noise, a single thunk or clunk when straightening out from a full right turn. seems to come only during full turn, not when only veering and nothing from left turns. seen a lot of threads about front end noise, but nothing this specific. can anyone help?

my guess is the rear bushing in the lower control arm. The bushing keeps the LCA from sitiing on the frame. When your turning, torque pushes the lCA up and then slams back down as you finish the turn. You should also have some noise when driving over curbs as the LCA would rub against the frame. Jack up the car and take the tire off. The LCA is y shaped piece of metal that attached to the frame at two points and supports the steering knuckle at the third. Look at the rear of the LCA where it attaches to the passenger compartment. The LCA shoud be sitting at least an inch of the frame. If it's on the frame then the bushing has pushed out and needs to be replaced.

How many miles do you have? Unfortunatley the front ends go early in cruisers so you may want to accumulate all the parts first. You can easily expect to replace the LCAs, bearings, motor mounts, struts, sway bar bushings and possibly the axle shafts to replace the CV joints. As an aside, if the car starts running like crap and the AC doesn't blow cold your radiator fan is shot.

There's plenty of how to advise here. I just did all of the above and it was not hard. You just have to like turning wrenches and saving money

don't have the mileage handy, the wife is the primary driver. what kind of damage could this cause and what kind of time frame before it gets really bad or becomes undriveable? been hearing it for about two weeks or so. thanks for your help.

No hurry, most people don't realize there's a problem till a mechanic tells them. My pt was In for brakes 75,000 miles. The only damage is scraping paint off the frame or bending the LCA. Since you just got the car, you might want to take it to the dealer for a courtesy inspection. act like your going to have them do all the work and ask for estimates and priorities so you can work out a budget. Then price the parts and look here for the how to's. with this information you can decide the best approach and know how much your saving. You will also get a better working vocabulary so you can haggle with independent shops to do the work. The underlying problem with the pt is that chrysler had ten years to figure out how to make them cheaper so they could increase the profit margin.

Thanks for all the info, we bought a warranty along with the car, whether or not this is covered, well, probably not, but will check with the dealer first.
