Default New Here, Have a tire fitment Question

Hello,

I recently bought a 2008 PT Touring with 16" wheels. This car was my fathers who past away. I helped him shop for and buy this car in 2009. The car is mint and has only 24,000 miles. My guess is it still has the factory tires on it. they are 205/55/16.

I have a set of winters that I had on my last car that was were used for 1 season. They are 215/60/16. Does anyone know if they will fit with no rubbing issues?

Thanks!

They are going to a bit taller and a bit thinner but not that much where it would make a big difference as far as fitment. If in real doubt, take one wheel off and have a tire store fit the winter tires and try it out.

Thanks, may give that a try.

No no. They are indeed taller but are also wider. But the problem is they are probably too tall and will rub on the spring perch on the front struts. To get a rough idea simply stick your finger between the top, inside of the present stock tires and the bottom of the strut perch to see how much space is there for a taller tire. My guess is there will only be maybe a 1/4" of clearance. (Because manufacturers round out their sizes sometimes tires can measure out smaller or bigger than the size they are claimed to be so you may luck out.)

For what it's worth, the bigger tires will work on the rear axle but with FWD you really need the "winter tires" in front.

GAD, what was I thinking? Thanks 2step for jumping in. They will be taller and WIDER. Must have been daydreaming when I came up with my answer.

But it still wouldn't hurt to try one of the tires on the front before completely giving up on them. They aren't that far off.
