Default Please give me an easy way......R-springs

Its inspection time. Due in 30 days. I have 30 days to....

Foam in a hole in my rocker, bondo to finish.

Replace my control arm bushings *only after one year :/*

Stop a leaky exhaust. *donut :-D*

And lastly replace my rear springs........

Today I attempted this. Jacked up the rear, pulled the wheels, got out my handy-dandy spring compressors and.........whoops

They dont fit. Too big to clamp onto the springs......

I tried for about 3 hours to figure it out. Only thing i can think of is maybe ratchet strapping them to compress em with 500lb straps?

I cant fit the compressors in there.

Is there a special trick that I'm too special to realize?

Only other option I can see is two crank jacks under the rear end and literally dropping it by well......unbolting the entire rear axle.

There's gotta be a better way here......

Help? :-)

I'm no expert on this BUT you don't have to compress the rear springs to change them. After the rear is jacked up, a couple things have to be unbolted and (one side at a time) the rear drops down enough that the spring is just taken out and replaced with the new spring.

Here, this explains it better than I can......

changing rear springs, possible in the driveway?

I just jacked the car up and unbolted the top of the shocks. A pry bar popped them right out.

You have to do ALL of that to pass inspection?......What state is this?....Let me guess,California??!lol
I can understand the exhaust leak, but some of the other stuff I have to question.
Yeah,to do rear springs you should only need to drop the rear end(no spring compresser necessary).

I need to find some GoldLine super slammers!

The Eibach's take very little force to pull out.

Oh god no its Maine. 102 point inspection requirements. If my MIL is on, it fails, If my CV boots cracked it fails, If there is a spec of rust on the fuel lines.......well you get the point. Its sad.

I thought Maine had that GOP idiot, LePage, as governor. Aren't they for no government?

I put in lowering springs in the rear.
Floor jack on the beam rear axle, jack stands at jack points by rear doors, unbolt top of shocks, drop rear axle and springs pull out.
I did not have to mess with sway bar.

We do have lepage haha. He's not as dumb as he seems on TV though. People just dont like him cause hes a no BS kinda guy lol And he has no filter which gets him in trouble haha.

and thanks for the advice! seems almost as easy as changing the shocks :-D

On a side note, moog says they make two kinds of springs, constant rate and another that gets stiffer with the load? Which ones should I get? I want a compfy ride not a very harsh one lol

You probably want the progressive springs. They tend to be softer over the little bumps and firm up with the more extreme suspension motions.

I have changed springs at least 4 times and never had to unbuckle the shocks. I may have used a length of 2x4 to lever between the axle and chassis to fully extend the shocks, though. Those times I had a rear anti-sway bar, I did have to disconnect the end links.
