Default Doing front wheel bearings and??

I need to know if I need to replace the hubs also. I have read that some just do bearings and there good but others have said they just did bearings and had to take it back apart and replace the hubs. Iam on a tight budget or I would just do the hubs too.

Hubs aren't replaced unless they are bent.

Good luck!

This question wasn't fully answered. I know the rear hubs are a complete unitized hub/bearing assembly. But can just the bearings be replaced in the front hubs? A while back a shop replaced both front hubs but the bearings were loose and they had to press them into the hubs. Does this mean that one can remove the bearings and just replace those? My PT is suffering from a repetitive "squeak" coming from the left side and another shop is still troubleshooting where the noise is coming from. The other shop that replaced both front hubs and bearings, their work on my PT, let's just say was lacking in competent mechanical skills, so all of their work is having to be redone. Thanks.

I haven't had a bearing squeak. That said, you can definitely replace the front bearings by themselves.

you can change just the bearings. i did it on both fronts. it requires a press and even with the press, it is NOT a fun job. given enough beer, some cutting, and a lot of careful pounding, it could also be done with no press(not recommended).

a squeak would much more likely be slightly warped rotors or just an issue with the pads. if they were changed and you don't have the weird wheelbearing grinder sound, i'd ASSume bearings are not your problem.

Bearing hub assemblies are sealed bearings. There are rare occasions that the seal is displaced either at the factory or during installation which can cause an annoying squeak. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to relieve this noise without replacing the hub assembly. You can test this by spraying WD-40 or similar spray lubricant on the back side of the bearing. If the noise goes away then it is the seal.

The rotor would probably be the next suspect component, given that a previous shop used cheap parts, when there were better ones available, although they told me they were using upgraded parts, I found out otherwise! The new shop has put new calipers (old were toast) & pads on the front, & turned the rotors, replaced both rear wheel cylinders (one was leaking). The rear drums, shoes & hardware kit were replaced last Dec., so I basically have an entire new braking system.
