Default Sway bar bushings????

Good day!

I've had a clunking underneath the front end for awhile now; been too cold for me here in Wis for me to want to get underneath. I checked a bunch of stuff today when I changed the oil, and the only thing I can find that is "loose" seems to be the front sway bar - there is play within the bushings.

Could this be it? It's a pretty loud clunking I hear whenever I travel over bumps or potholes (and there's lots of those right now!!!).

Thanks.

Whitty

Quick replies!!! Thanks.

So in looking for bushings, I see there are different size sway bars for the same model and model year.

How the heck do I sort that out?

Thanks - I see there's multiple sway bar sizes for the bushings. How do I determine the size of the bar?

You should look them up for your model PT. If you tell us what it is there are many of us can tell you what you should have. There are only 2 factory options for the front.

That I know of?

Lightbulb Re: Sway bar bushings????

If you have a caliper measure the sway bar itself, that'll leave no doubt, and check the new bushings to that measurement before purchasing......If doing the bushings, you should also do the end links at the same time;Be sure and use something like PB Blaster on ALL bolts & nuts(especially for Northern PT Cruiser=road salt=rust) or you can end up shearing them off,the end links can be cut off with a hacksaw/sawzall,if they give you trouble.

Thanks for that tip on the end links - I'll include that in the project. They've gotta come off anyway, right?

Yeppers, and if your 2008 is a Northern car, exposed to road salt, they still be could be pretty rusty/sticky.....Even if there're not, cutting them off with a hacksaw (or even better 'Sawz-all') only takes a few seconds, versus struggling with the nuts/bolts.
You'll see what I mean, when you start to work on them....Just cut them in the middle, thru the old bushings and all, then remove the two halves easily.
Then replace with the new,and throw the old ones in the trash.
