It looks like the outer CV joint boot. They make a "split" style replacement boot that can put on without having to remove the CV shaft. But often torn CV boots indicate that the CV joint is ready for replacement. And in that case, most folks purchase a entire rebuilt CV shaft.

Dorman split CV boot:

For my experience if you replace a split boot with a split. Well you get another split boot! You might be as well off shopping for a new axle.

Well considering he tore it with the bottom of the strut assembly, I doubt i have to replace the whole unit. I DONT like the idea of the split boot and think I will just order the replacement boots and deal with installing those myself.

As we in concurrence that the red outlined box is the CV boot?

Dont know bout that Danny. Im just hoping that driving around with a torn cv joint boot isnt gonna harm anything else. The grease all over my rims can be cleaned, but this just sucks. lol

Which would be ore beneficial??? Replace the boot or the whole cv axle or joint or whatnot?????
Its a 2005 PTGT turbo which just rolled 61K miles

It can be hard to remove the joint from the axle shaft. Plus driving it is getting grit in the joint and excessive ware from lack of grease. If the tare is small you still may be good to go on a boot swap. Be quick though. Can ruin it quick.
