Question OEM Wheel History Question...

I've got original (2004) six-spoke (Touring model) 16 inch chrome wheels.
And they are starting to show their age, fair bit of wear&tear!

Does any one know who actually manufactured these OEM wheels? And are they still available "NOS" from dealers?

I rather like the look of them, but wonder if the quality is worth the cost...

Are modern forged alloy wheels going to be NOTICEABLY better quality (stronger, lighter, tougher, etc) than a set of these stock wheels?

(I'm thinking along the lines of Konig, American Racing - that sort of thing...)

Yes, I believe American Racing made most of the wheels for the PT. Before hitting the dealer ($$$$) I'd look around at eBay and Craig's List or anyplace else first.

Here's one on eBay right now....

Thanks Crewzin, I'll be checking into that myself. My chromes(1st year limited) are worse than his especially around inside edge and near center cap plus fading. Like a triage unit, I have other priorities on my car more important. Thanks for American Racing information.

I replaced my wheels with ones from TireRack - they were several pounds apiece lighter and less than $100 @.
Bought tires, and they came balanced and mounted - just bolt them on.

I did that with my Corvette QSD, also at Tire Rack. Came mounted and balanced.

My OEM wheels were cataloged as Hollander 2201

Chrysler PT Cruiser 16 x 6 2003-2007 Factory OEM Wheel Full Face Painted 2201

They held up pretty good, one wheel had minor flaking near the center cap after 6 years. Stored them in the garage.

Replaced them last fall with Hela HE 825 wheels 16 X7 1/2)

$166.25 each free shipping. So Far so good....

I'm looking for wheels to replace the chrome (rusty chrome - or is it patina?) ones on my '05.

Being a tightwad and having nearly new tires on it, I'd like to find some 15 inchers.

Looking for Chrome 15"
how about these?

15x6 5 Milanni Kool Whip 5 5x100 38mm Chrome Wheels Rims inch 15" | eBay
or
American Racing AR895 AR89557095835 Rims Qty 4 15x7 35mm 5x100 105 Bright PVD | eBay
or
15x6.5 Chrome MKW M107 Rim 5x100 & 5x114.3 +38 Offset M107-1565001038C - Rims - M107 - Chrome - 5x100 - - 6.5 - 73.00 - 38

Their are a lot of choices out there. I went with the 16" for the same reason, I had just purchased some new Cooper tires before buying the rims.
Shop and compare . The internet is the great equalizer

Just be sure to triple check fitment with the vendor before purchase!!!!

Thanks. Those 5-spoke wheels look good. Fairly easy to keep clean. My new tires are Coopers, too. Good tires.
