Say your looking to buy new rims. What tires work the best on 17" rims?
Im using this link as an example to see the recommended tires to fit 17" rims that fit the PT. You have to fill it out. http://www.bigwheels.net/index.jsp I also used this link for the chart to input the information. I only compared tires I don't know the rearend ratio or the RPM. http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html The results from the stock tires 205/55 R16 compared to 205/50 R17 tires. This seem to be off by almost 1. The results from the stock tires 205/55 R16 compared to 225/45 R17 tires. They seem to match well with the stocks speed ratio off by less then 1/2. Also whats the difference in performance rating of tires, ex., Ultra High performance, Max performance, High performance, High Performance All-Season, Ultra High Performance All-Season, Performance. Which would be good for an everyday driver? |

Well so far I have found that Continental ContiExtremeContact are the best for the money in all tires.

The new Yokohama Avid V4S (and Avid H4S) are pretty hard to beat for value. I am replacing the Goodyears (pun intended, because that's how long they lasted) on my GT with 215/50/17 Avid V4S. 60,000 mile warranty for a V-rated tire. That's AWESOME!
Contrary to popular belief, the "Green" tire (longer mileage, etc.) actually has better traction and handling characteristics than a conventional tire. The new silica deaggregate additives in newer tires offer better mileage and traction properties. My 2 cents, Scott

The Conti is a very good tire. I almost bought those but went with the Yokohama AVS ES100 exclusively due to the price difference.

I got my Yokohama AVS ES100's from tire rack for dirt cheap. they are a great z rated tire.
Couldn't find them for more than 70 more a piece elsewhere.

Why Yoko's instead of Conti's? Maybe because the Yokohama's are a known name.
Heres how they compare. According to the comparison the yoko's are only WR rated, and there 82 a piece. The conti are 81 and VR rated. The conti's numbers are on the left and the yoko are on the right. I will admit the yoko's have a nice look to them and I will never drive in the snow. But the Conti's numbers are better in almost all categorys.
