Advice on wheels
As some of you may have seen my other threads, this is what my car currently looks like.
15x6.5 motegi racing wheels with 185/65/15 tires. I hate the look and wondering about switching to these 16" chrome rims in the second picture. The current tires I have on now are in great condition and I will be needing tires if I decide to go with the 16"s. Few questions: will I be fine with 205/55/16 over 225/50/16, not sure what the difference is but the 225/50/16 are significantly more in price. I live in michigan and we had a bad winter last year and the worst potholes I have ever seen. (Thankfully I had an 03 tahoe z71 4x4, no longer have) Are the 16"s going to have any disadvantages over the 15's in snow or what not? Will they rust at all? Easy to crack? Any help would be appreciated to help me make a decision, should I make this change or stick to the 15"s. I think I may be able to sell the 15's so I will have a chance to put the 16"s with brand new tires without spending any extra money since I got a good deal on the 16"s Im thinking abou purchasing the new tires from walmart. 205/55/16 http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa6d747dc.jpg http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa4d993f0.jpg |

Re: Advice on wheels
I can see why you don't like the look.
Why don't you try plastic dipping the wheels first before you buy a new set of wheels. I think you just need to get rid of the red. |

I think you just need to get rid of the red.[/QUOTE] My other option or thought was to paint the caliper either black or silver and to paint all the red on the wheels silver. So a black and silver wheel that will match the silver pinstripe. What do you mean by plastic dipping the wheels though? Do what exactly? The whole wheel or just the red and how would that be done? I was just thinking maybe a silver paint pen, not sure how well that would work or which kind |
Re: Advice on wheels
I would dip the wheels in a grey or silver. The great part of plastic dip if you don't like it peels right off.
Start here for colors: https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php YouTube has many videos on how to dip your wheels You would only need 1 can per wheel and for less than $30 you would have a new set of wheels. |
Re: Advice on wheels
Here is a super quick not very good edit of your car with the chrome wheels. It's not exact because your wheels have the lug nuts hidden under the cover, but it can give an idea of what your car will look like.

Aren't the 16" you show "chrome clad"? That's a plastic chrome coating. As to rust - get a strong magnet - if the magnet is pulled toward the wheel, it can rust. Your current wheels are alloy and cannot rust. |
Re: Advice on wheels
Larger rear tires would certainly make your current wheels look better in the wheel wells. Paint over those red ring rims too.

Re: Advice on wheels
The sixteen's will look great on there with the recommended sized tires. That's what is on my PT in my footer below. They look great. Here's the specs.
