Default need some advice

My 03 GT only has 95k on the meter and the rear end bushings are squeaking to beat the band. I was thinking of putting a zerk fitting on each bushing bracket. Has anyone used the self tapping zerk fittings and what are your thoughts on doing this(I have tried squirting oil but with no results).

I assume that you believe the trailing arm bushings are making the noise.

Often this noise comes from the rear sway bar shackle bushings fixed to the back of the rear axle if you have a rear sway bar. Most 2003 PT's didn't come with one but some cars have an aftermarket or 2001/2002 OEM sway bar added. Next likely noise is from the watts links or bell crank attached to the center of the rear axle. Make sure your noise is not coming from one of these first.

If your noise is truly coming from the trailing arm bushings, they are not that difficult to replace. There's instructions on the internet but I'm sure a member might post them for you from a maintenance manual too.

Also, I'm not sure adding a grease fitting will do the job. Even if successfully installed, the grease would only lubricate between the bushing and trailing arm on the bottom. There's very little rotation in this system so the grease would likely not migrate to the sides or top.

Instead you might try a penetrating spray lubricant to see if that helps. You might get lucky. That's what I would try first. And if that did not work, I would plan on replacing the bushings.

Have you eliminated the shocks and or other things under the back end? Spare tire and rack, exhaust. I f someone has added a sway bar. Disconect and see if it stops. You can then fix if you know what is squeaking. Aftermarket bars usually come with urethane bushings. The are known to squeak.
