Default What size wheels can I actually change to?

So reading one of the sticky posts about wheels mine are 205/55-16 5 stud at the moment.

They are really badly gone and the cost to refurbish is awful, so bad it's cheaper to just get brand new or buy a second hand pair.

Given my current tyres say 205/55-16 at the moment, will a new set have to be this size? or can I go for any? I will hold my hands up and say outright I actually know little about wheels. In my mind I can just take my current lot off and shove on a new set even if they are bigger lol.

Do you need to change parts on the car to go for a bigger set even if they are 5 stud too?

All vehicles have limits when it comes to what wheels and tires that can be used on them without modifying the suspension etc.

The PT came stock with 16 " wheels but were also available with 17" wheels on at least the GT model. This is a great time to upgrade your wheels and tires since your tires are in need of replacing.

You can sometimes find a PT owner selling a complete take off set of wheels and tires but if you had to ship them would usually make it cost prohibitive.

I would check with at least a few of your local tire and wheel stores and see what kind of package deals they can come up with. If nothing else this will give you a good idea of what different looks are available for your car.

Keep in mind that the larger the diameter wheel the shorter the sidewall will be on the tire which can make the car ride stiffer. If you are doing a lot of driving on fairly rough roads all the time just something to keep in mind.

Good luck with your search

This worked for me remembering your bolt pattern is 5x100.

15 through 17 factory pt wheels will fit all PT models. Of course you can go bigger. Someone just went 20 but the tires are pretty low profile.

Don't know if they ship to the UK, but TireRack will only show you wheels and tyres for those wheels that fit your car when you enter your car info.
Pretty reasonable wheel/tyre packages, too, come balanced and ready to bolt on.

A lot to take in and consider then

It's odd, I find a 5 stud set of wheels 5-100, 16 inch and ebay tell me they are not compatible with my vehicle.

I really don't want the wheel alloy size I have. I find it looks far too small in comparison to the car. let's it all down.

According to the picture in your signature you have 16" now.

The offset of the wheel is also a consideration. You may be looking at a wheel that appears from its size and bolt pattern that it will work but the offset may be wrong which means on the PT the wheel may set to far in or out.

I agree that a little bigger wheel/tire package makes the PT look better. Lots of options but you just want to make sure you do not go too large and either make the ride too stiff or start hitting the body of the car going over bumps etc.

There are plenty of wheels on ebay that will fit your car and plenty that wont. The best thing to do is buy VW wheels and a pair of 5mm spacers for the front.

If you give me your budget and the a few ideas of the style you like I will find you some that will fit.

I haven't considered the budget, usually if I like it I will go for it regardless.

The ones I got are rusted to death, ignore my photo, the salt and grit they placed here killed mine.

I saw some guy with 20 inch wheels but they were run flat tyres or something. However, it looked damn fine.

I do not like white or black alloys. I am no mechanic and do not want to be adding any bits and bobs really, I just wanted something that looks nice that i could fit on myself maybe just a bit bigger.
