Default Regular Suspension vs Sport Suspension

Could anyone tell me what the differences between a regular suspension and the sport suspension is? I have a 06 Route 66 with the sport suspension , but my vin shows a Touring model which I'm not sure if the sport suspension was offered on. Is the entire suspension different or only certain pieces?

Like Nitro said, it's likely just a decal and there is no difference, but there is a slim chance you have the 26mm front sway bar instead of the 22mm or 24mm.

About 2 years ago this question came up because of all the different part numbers for the front as well the rear over the production years. I got several springs from different models and ran them on my spring LB tester. There was a difference in the convertible by 25ilbs compressed over a 04-06 GT and 01-03 NA -10lbs. less then GTs front only. This may have accounted for the 2 size option for the sway bar on GT and Convertible models? What ever the in between rating were I seriously doubt that there were any changes?

Oh , there may have been front strut shaft sizing difference but I never went so far as to check them. I confirmed the springs for my own personal information for a PT suspension project.

It may be of interest that the spring specification are not a common for PT Cruiser only and that many OE after market spring supplier have many springs that could be used with different spring rates. Even the Performance spring manufactures if you can get them to give you there spring specification and sizing information has many that could be used. As an example the set offered by Ebach is very conservative for general use of street driving even though they let you assume many sets are track rated. whatever that means? LOL
Its all about liability and the good word spread around about product. Heaven forbid that a real performance suspension be offered for "JOE AVERAGE" and they wreck their ride and blame it on the suspension upgrades. LOL

ya I only mentioned the 26mm sway bar because I was looking at trying to piece together a kit of bigger sway bars for my car. My car has a 24mm front bar. I was looking at an H&R kit. The H&R front bar is only 25mm and I knew some Pts had a 26mm. I would rather pay less for the 26mm Chrysler bar than more for a 1mm bigger bar than my current one. Anyway, when I looked up the 26mm bar, it is listed as for the sport suspension.

So it may be the sway bar that gives the car it's sport suspension designation or not was my reasoning.

The H&R is a much better bar with a higher anti roll specification. You can not go by the size of a sway bar alone but also the design. If you are only comparing the factory sway bars naturally the larger diameter has a higher anti roll specification.

That's true, I didn't take into account the metallurgy. I wonder if anyone has tested the various stock Chrysler bars and even any aftermarket bars and compared them. I will do a search but I doubt the info is readily available outside of the manufacturers internal engineering specs.

Probably I will have no choice but to base it on size alone. We will see!

You're funny!

1 out of 1000 may know how to set up suspension to begin with, and you think anyone owning a PT Cruiser is going to do lateral G Data testing on a skid pad to compare sway bars?

I was actually referring to the hollow or solid and cold or heat bent.

Haha well I was hoping you might be bored one day and go out and do some skid pad testing! lol

Actually I was thinking of testing more along the lines of how a spring is tested. Something like how many pounds of force to cause an inch of deflection. That way I could compare to see if the 25mm bar is delivering better results than the 26mm bar for example.
