The cage will not fit any larger of a tire. It pivots on one side and the other is held by a hook. The pivot side is gonna limit your tire size within it, and the cage is shaped to hold the spare rim. You also dont have much room before your tire hangs below the bumper.

A couple months ago, I picked up an inexplicably large *bolt* in my tire.
I got out the spare, only to discover that it was completely flat and it looked dry rotted anyways. The tire with the bolt held air, so I was able to get it to the shop very slowly on back roads and fortunately, they were able to patch it and only charged me $15 to boot!

Question is, where can I source a new spare that fits the Cruiser and also fits in the spare cage? I remember someone here had a polished aluminium one at one point XD

On a side note, I abhor scissor jacks, (Predominantly because I value my life) has anyone been able to fit a small trolley jack or bottle jack in the jack compartment?

Thank you!!
I have an extra aluminum spare, but the tire is cut. I was going to practice polishing on it, but you're too far to make it worthwhile. I try to pull them out of the '01s when I see them in the yard, but they usually lift the car under the cage.

Scissor jacks are not for working under the car, but they are no worse than bottle jacks. I actually think they are better than bottle jacks. As long as you don't actually let any of your body under there you are safe and they are usually lighter.

My Dad said Triple A told him they wouldn't help him with his car because it didn't have a spare (battery in the trunk). I guess they might tow him home, but he wanted it for his extended cross country vacations.

Thats wrong somehow, most new cars don't have spares. I've never heard of a tow truck not helping because you didn't have a spare. I didnt call them to tell me i cant change my tire on the side of the road. I know that, i'm calling for a tow.

[QUOTE=VsandFords;688000]The polished one is mine.

It's the original that came with my '01 LE, just cleaned up a little.

A little thought flashed through my pea brain as to whether one could be mounted on the tailgate with a suitable cover inna 30's stylee and not make it too heavy

Edit: in case anyone thinks I'm mad - this is an Airflow imported into the UK
