Default Wider wheels for PT GT similar style

Can anyone recommend me wheels as similar as possible to the stock design while being wider? I donít want to go any bigger than 18 inch but I need wider wheels for better traction with the power Iím making.

You might just try looking at tirerack.com.

18" is diameter, not width. You can actually have your stock rims widened, not that I'd recommend it. I know some guys that did that to Hellcat rims. First thing I would look at is tire compound, maybe drag radials. Did you upgrade you axles? The more traction you get, the quicker they will snap. There are no shortage of factory and aftermarket wheels in this size. I think most VWs share the bolt pattern.

i agree but i'm pretty sure he won't be able to find a good drag radial for a 16 x 6" rim. i have the only width 16" MT ET Street available. it's a 255 and it runs wide for that number. 10.5"

Not that it makes them any easier to find, but I am pretty sure the GT wheels are 17 x 7 (It appears no matter how pretty sure I was, they are actually 17 x 6"). He probably should read through SPL Neon's drag thread. I am sure he is running drag radials - I think MTs, maybe on 14" stockers. There should be some decent sized 15" wheel tire combinations and they *might* clear the brakes. I know my car came with a 16" spacesaver and people kept telling me it didn't and that the 15" would fit.

15's would be his best bet i think. it was such a common drag size for so many years that there's a plethora of sizes he could use, plus a wider sidewall would help with the way stick cars shock the tires

I mainly want the wider wheels to improve its stance and look on the road. I know the difference between width and diameter. What I was saying was I want a 17 inch wheel that looks as similar as possible to the factory wheel while being a bit wider to give it a meaner stance and also better traction overall, not just in a straight line. I love how the factory 17 inch GT wheels look. I was seriously considering Prowler wheels, but they are incredibly expensive and I would need 5x114.3 wheel adapter hubs. A set of four would run me about $1200. I will not be drag racing this car but I will have 400 hp to the front wheels.

The motor is currently getting cleaned and machined by my friend and I will be buying the parts as soon as he tells me what size bearings and pistons I need to get.

Here is a pic of my beaut!

Spacers are nice, but they don't allow you to put much more rubber on a 6" rim. They are okay if you have some inside or caliper rub or want to perfect the "stance" by getting the wheel dead perfect in the well. For a 6" wide rim proper tire sizes are supposedly 175mm to 205mm. Stock GTs are already pretty well maxxed out. I threw 215mm on mine and it has been fine, but I am already wider than I should be and probably suffering some performance disadvantages.

You are going to want more than 205mm with 400 hp. My car is almost stone stock, fairly well maintained with 162K miles and I can obliterate the tires on a launch with either the 205s or 215. Hell, I could ruin 225 mm Gatorbacks with my 162 hp T1 Laser. If you are spending all that money and love the GT rims you could seriously look into widening some.
