Default 16X7 Offset Question

Car is a 2002 Limited. As far as I can tell, the stock wheels are 16X6 ET40 with 205/55/16 tires.

This car sits in a parking lot, often for months at a time and is only driven a few hundred miles a year. Because of the corrosion issues the stock wheels experience, I've had the tires dismounted several times and attempted to wire brush the wheels and apply bead sealer. But the tires still won't hold air well.

To try to correct this, I would like to replace the wheels. It seems that most aftermarket wheels are 16x7 (vs. the stock 16x6) and the large majorly of 16X7 wheels have the same ET40 offset as the stock 16X6 wheels.

If I run 16X7 ET40's with 225/50/16 tires, will there be no issues?

I don't care about appearance. This car is a tool and must be reliable when needed. I just want something as close to stock as possible.

This isn't about "what's the biggest, widest," etc, etc. The only goals are reliability and to eliminate the air seepage that I'm experiencing with the corroded stock wheels.

An online calculator shows "Package 2 (16x7 with 225/50/16) is 10 mm (0.4'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars.

Fenders clearance: Package 2 will stick out 10 mm (0.4'') farther. Acceptable for most cars."

Thanks.

Default Re: 16X7 Offset Question

I just put on American racing wheels this summer that had 10mm more offset...45mm...and they "JUST" barely cleared the calipers!
