I've had Kumho HP4 716's on my car for 10k miles with no problem. These are grand touring tires, so I am not sure what exactly you are looking for, but i've not no tractions issues on snow, ice, rain or dry pavement, and I am a pretty agressive driver.

Best thing is they are relatively inexpensive, and they rate as good as the more expensive ones. Go figure...

Hope that helps..
Matt

Once again, thanks to all - I'm not a particularly aggressive driver - mainly wanted something I feel more comfortable with - just don't like the GY LS. Down here in Bama we don't see much snow, but do want something that handles on wet/dry & resistant to hydroplaning. We do have some roads that weren't particularly well engineered & standing water/slow drainage can be a problem.

Accordingly, I'd pretty much narrowed it down the the Michelin HydroEdge or the Good Year TripleTred. The tread profile is very, very similar, & the TripleTreds were a little less expensive, so I ordered a set - $511 balanced, mounted, with free repair/balancing for life of tire. With a UTQG of 740 (80,000 miles, so they say), they should last a while...

Next it's finding new shoes for the Caddie CTS...[:0]

I have the goodyear tripletreds . . . . and i am very, very pleased with them. First thing i noticed is that they are quiet - almost to the point of being scary - i don't need to jack up my stereo to the point of going deaf on the highway. On dry pavement, these tires are freakin sticky! all the vibrations and wobbling sensations that the PT had with the Eagle LS, just disapeared! I can finally take turns at a good clip without the car rocking back and forth afterwards. Wet traction in slush and water has been exellent too. Tire's design seem to throw water, snow and slush backwards and out of the wheelwells. snow traction is great, tires just bite into the white crap (and there are winters when MA gets socked with it bigtime!).

there are a few drawbacks. tires are very stiff. they are slightly harsher when encountering bumps or dips in the road, then the eagle ls is (but you really have to wack 'em hard to make it feel bone jarring). but i know some people don't like the stiffer ride.

I've had 3 different pairs of ultra high performance summer tires down here in sunny florida, and the best tires are Yokahoma avs es100's. they dont exactly last forever but they give the feeling of endless control around quick corners. They also eliminated that front wheel spin under heavy acceleration. Supper sticky.

If you are willing to give up a little on the gripp my Yoko Avid 4Vs directional all seasons are great. Ultra quiet compared to my RSA's, better dry traction, and very good handling. Last night I kept up with a Subaru STI on a big on ramp and could feel the car puling me through the sweeper. I never could gather enough G's to feel that on my RSA's without squeeling. If you are comparing them to your factory tire they would feel like super tires.

I would never put any Goodyear back on my car...The Michelin Hydro Edge is the choice for me. I installed them about 2 years ago on my PT and they are a great tire...in the rain this is the best tire I have ever had...You cant go wrong with this tire....

Have a few thousand miles on the TripleTreds now & love them. Far, far superior to the LS - quiet, comfortable ride, terrific traction, etc.

Bought a set of the Michelin HydroEdge tires for our Caddie CTS & they seem much the same as the Triple Treds, though a bit more expensive. The CTS came with Goodyear Eagle RSAs, & they flat-spotted before we had 20,000 miles on 'em.

I have Kumho, standard tires from Discount Tire. Installed about 10,000 miles ago and I've seen little wear at all! And, I drove the PT after an ice storm; they handled so well. I have no ABS, so I took a few turns with the e-brake to test my skills, since I haven't driven in the snow or ice in like 17 years, and after releasing the brake, the car tracked back through the turn and handled wonderfully. The Badyears that came on the car were scary.
