Bob,
The majority of us just changed the springs and left the shocks and struts alone. That puts the PT in a stance where we were happy with it. It does harshen up the ride a bit. Those that didn't like the bumpier ride, went with the Pro-damper kit which included front struts and rear shocks that were especially made for the lowering springs. Both Eibach and Tokico have a kit specially designed for the PT Cruiser. Personally, I didn't mind the harsher ride, but now that they are tearing up all the roads around me (and it'll be going on for 3 more years) I can definitely feel the difference. Just to see what the Pro-damper kit feels like, I just ordered the rear shocks. That's the easiest part because I can put them on myself. If I can feel the difference between the front and rear when I hit the bad parts of the road, I'll probably go ahead and go for the pro-damper struts. |

I remember the post, but I think that it was determined that there wasn't much, if any difference. I only want a 1 inch drop on my base, to avoid bottoming out. That said, New aftermarket parts would be such an improvement that I wouldn't bother putting used (more than 10k miles) components in and aligning. While all of us like to keep costs down, brakes, tires and suspension aren't the place to go cheap. I think most people ended up changing the shocks/struts after the lowered springs, anyway. You can save a few bucks doing it all at once.

I remember reading that the Touring suspension was 1" lower than base - I hadn't known that.
Depends how much you lower - If you "slam" 3", by all means you'll need shocks. I just lowered rear 1.5-2" and stuck with stock and never regretted it.

I am not sure if this is what you meant, but I asked a question a while back about putting GT springs on a N/A and was told that the it would lower my car about an inch. Then to find out that since I have touring edition, the GT springs won't do anything.
So I guess if you have a base 'cruiser and put touring, limited or GT springs on, then your car will be lower by an inch. It seems to have to do with the fact that Base models come with 15" wheels standard and the touring and limited come with 16" wheels. I could be wrong in this (would not be the first time), but I believe it is correct. -Andy
