Yeah, had one Diesel (although a Volkswagen) back in my army days . But doing less than 5000km/year now, its not really an option
Run mine as a daily - work & back about 60Km plus weekends tra-la-la - we're on about 1,22 - 1,25 Euro a litre around here and I tank up zirca 50 ltrs every 2 weeks.
If I could be arsed to drive 100Km I'd likely get it much cheaper in Luxembourg but lifes too short.

The Diesel is well worth it fuel wise - I had a 2.0ltr PT before and it wouldn't pass a fuel pump without stopping.
Plus it's a Merc lump, pretty much what all the taxi's run. 280,000 Km and counting...
