Rudy,
Got this from one of the other postings on another forum. They also said not to do anything until you get an offical notice in the mail.

Chrysler recalls PT Cruisers

More than 464,000 of the vehicles recalled for fuel pump fix.
August 9, 2002: 1:40 PM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Chrysler said Friday that it's recalling 464,315 model year 2001 and 2002 PT Cruisers to install a seal in a fuel pump.

The No. 3 U.S. automaker said that a fuel leak was detected during an inspection after a government crash test. It said that there were no incidents or complaints it knew of related to the fuel pump seal, but that it was recalling the vehicles as a precaution.

Chrysler also said about a quarter of the vehicles recalled have a fuel supply line that could rub against an air conditioning port, which might cause a fuel leak. While this is unlikely to occur, Chrysler said it will attach a clip to the fuel line to prevent contact.

Has anyone received ANYTHING from Chrysler for safety bulletins or safety recall info? I found a web site that lists all of the things that they have recalled, etc. but I have NEVER received any letters from Chrylser about any of it. http://www.alldata.com/TSB/13/011311DD.html
I filled out the registration card a long time ago...
Anyone else receive letters from Chrysler?

I just heard about the recall for 2001 cruisers, what is the deal? Have there been any accidents due to the recall?

Sharon,
Read my reply....NO accidents or Complaints.

CruzTX,
As far as I know there as only been one recall on the PT Cruiser and that's this new one about the fuel pump. It will take awhile before all the owners are contacted since they have sold so many. The only other thing that the PT was involved in was the instructions on how to strap in a child car seat. A bulletin was issued and new instructions were sent out to everyone until the new instructions started to be printed in the owners manual.

There are 2 recall notices that I know of.
Some of the early cars had the fuel line under the hood routed to where it rubbed on the metal air conditioner lines. It can, and has rubbed thru the line, causing a fuel leak. At fuel pump pressure, this is not good. They will re-route the line and put a clip on it to hold it back. My 02 did not have this problem (I checked myself) and I did not get a notice on it.

The 2nd notice I received. It stated that if there were a roll-over accident, and the car ends up upside down, that fuel can leak from the fuel pump, and there is a potential for fire. In this recall, they drop the gas tank and put an extra gasket of some kind on the fuel pump. The fuel pump is mounted in the top of the gas tank BTW. I had this recall performed on my car this week.

Keep the shiny side up until you get #2 done.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we got our notice for the recal and took our car in this week. I know there are a lot of others like us that have installed dual exhaust. Our great dealership (probably a 1 star) called us and told us that we would have to pay 90.00 to have the work done because we had an after market exhaust that was in their way. This hasnt been our only problem with this dealership in our Stockton area. Most of the time they cant seem to duplicate any problems that we have had. Rough idle and a stinky air conditioner vent and we all know that others have had these common problems. Well after a few phone calls arquing with them about their 90.00 charge and how we were not going to pay it. They finally did the job without a charge. I cant believe the problems that we have been getting, but we do love this car. Enough to get another one, but you can bet we will find another dealership this time around. Good Luck all with your recalls.
