Default Newbis question - Door Locks...

I got a question for you guys. My wife and I have had our cruiser for about 6 months now and we just noticed something. If someone is in the back seat and the doors are locked, they can not get out until either the passenger or the driver unlocks the door. Is there a way around this?

Thank for your help.

I believe this is a child safety thing. Look on the door jamb and there should be a lever that puts it in lock versus unlock condition.

Nehope,
The child safety feature, when activated, requires that the back doors can be opened only from outside once the doors are unlocked. What patbluecruiser is talking about is the front doors unlock (plunger goes up) when you pull the inside door handle to exit the car. The back doors don't have this feature so the lock plunger must be pulled up manually or with the elecrtic lock button before the inside or for that matter the outside handle will work.

My PT does the same thing. it has nothing to do with the child safety latch that you flip on the door itself. When the car automaticly locks the doors at 15mph, you have to unlock all the doors as opposed to just pulling the handle and it automaticly unlocking it like the front passenger door or like my 99 ford ranger does. I still haven't found a way around it. It could very well be a safety thing too.

Alright, now I'm confused. The only time anyone riding in my back seats has indicated to me that they have problems getting out is when the child locks were engaged. Maybe they're just pulling the lock pins up without me knowing it. I stand corrected.

Right by the door handle is the lock/unlock rocker switch - hit it and unlock all the doors. They lock automatically at about 15 mph.

Mine don't . that the first thing I undid when I got my car. The second was the horn beeping when I locked the doors with remote.

I was thumbing through ptdoityourself.net and i found this. It's for a 2001 pt but it might work for yours. I haven't tried it though.
