Default Nut size for the negative battery ternimal cable.

What size is the nut on the negative cable wire. Mine is stritped and I can hardly remove it and need a new one. I check with an auto parts store and the one I bought was too big.

Any help
Thanks.

King,
Checked my books and cd but no info on the size of the bolt but you use a 10MM wrench to loosen the neg terminal. Hope this helps

10mm, huh. I will have to see what I can get at a parts store. The first time they sold me something too big. The jerk said it was universal. I guess I can't blame him for wanting to wait on the hot girl behind me as soon as he could.

If you buy the nut AND the bolt, it's guaranteed to be the right size...

How about using a couple of flat washers to lift the nut away form the bolt?? [:I] Is the nut OD to large to turn? Another suggestion take the orginal bolt in and try the nut to fit.

Hooligan,
The nut is larger then the original bolt. I would have to replace the whole nut and bold. Im not sure if the bold will fit the hole through the cable hookup piece.

Sounds like what you got is the standard replacement bolt/nut in SAE for the old lead-type battery cable ends. Take your metric bolt in with you to get a nut and maybe a flat washer to give you more clearance.

I suggest you buy a pair of replacement clamp-on cable end terminals (+ and -), and cut off and replace the cheesy stamped steel pieces of cheap-a$$ crap D-C supplied.

Installation takes a few minutes, and future problems caused by bad battery connections will be avoided.
