Default Bumper problem fixed

Hey Howzit?
I'm Glad to say DC pushed the right buttons to get the bumper covers replaced, and coverd by warntee N/C. Now looks like new, no anoying tape marks to look at. And they didn't paint the whole thing bumpper is still the gray composit and shroud is color of car. I like that look. The whole process was quite a learning experiance. [8D]
Defently a chain of command one need to follow. Thanks to all those who help me figure it out.

Thank You Jimbo. Your right as rain about the should part. But from what I've seen and I've seen quite a few with this problem on 2001 and 2002 PT's. Their are more with marks on them, on this little Island than without. So makes me wonder why more people haven't gotten their's fixed.
Either thier not as anal retentive as me, or thier also initally denided, given a BS story and they accept it. I appericate it is an expensive repair. To buy the covers alone un painted would be about $600. so add paint to the rest of shroud and install I bet your looking at $800. Something I couldn't afford to do on my own dime. This forum helps a lot with feed back on any problem with the PT. Many intellegent, investigative, experianced problem solvers. I love this site.[8D]

I enjoy this forum also. What I know about PT's. Ive learned from
the great people on this forum. As for PT's with tape marks.I bet a lot of people could care less.Alot of people around here don't
even bother washing them. They only wash them when it rains.I can't
stand a dirty car.[:0]

Hooray for you, Stirfry. I got a painted zenon cover, it's how I solved my problem. I find it amazing the problem continued on '02s - you think they would have stopped using the same tape after grief on '01s.....[:I]

Rummor has it, "The glue in the tape has a acid in it, if left on for more than say 24 hours, it eats into the resin of the bummper cover. That's why you can't get it off with anything because it has been chem. eched all the way through. 03's change saved them money in long run, so theirs no taping is involve, less work, and no need to baby sit bumppers. Makes seens yea.[8D]

I understand that base model still don't have painted bumpers. My guess is that the tape doesn't eat the paint.

I was just in the shop that is doing repairs on my PT and the owner said he had recently replaced several bumpers for just this problem. Evidently Chrysler is covering the cost here, don't know what the rule is nationwide.
